Many entertainers can belt a high note. They can impress us with their vocal ability, range and power, and some are blessed with a truly beautiful tone.

But can they tell a story?

Can they draw an audience in and make them feel something?

Don’t rely solely on your vocal prowess. Engage with the story. Use dynamics to give meaning to the words. Allow yourself to show vulnerability. Understand what you’re saying—and why you’re saying it.

Don’t merely sing a song.
